Hustle take on former NBA G League affiliate in Friday’s game, presented by Gold Strike Casino Resort

Tomorrow, the Memphis Hustle return to Landers Center for its fourth home game through the franchise’s first five games. Across the scorer’s table sits a familiar foe, the Grizzlies’ former NBA G League affiliate Iowa Wolves (formerly the Iowa Energy), whom Hustle head coach Glynn Cyprien coached on an interim basis last season.

Hustle Stats to Watch

– Expect Points: The average score of a Hustle game this season currently stands at 119.5-118.5. Additionally, Iowa gives up 117.0 points per game and scores 109.5 points per game.

– Battle Down Low: Memphis center Ivan Rabb and Iowa forward Amile Jefferson both rank third or higher in the league for rebounds per game. Jefferson leads the league (14.4) while Rabb is tied for second (11.3). Rabb averaged 21.3 points per game while Jefferson averages 17.4 points per game. Additionally, Rabb is the only player in the NBA G League averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in at least three games played.

– Watch the Boards: The Hustle will look to continue their rebounding prowess Friday. The team currently ranks second in the league in total rebounds (49.2), first in offensive rebounds (14.8) and eighth in defensive rebounds (33.8). Meanwhile, Iowa ranks in the bottom five of all three categories, including next to last in total rebounds (39.4).

– Additionally, the Hustle lead the league in blocks per game at 9.0, with no other team blocking an average of 8.0 shots. Iowa only blocks 3.2 shots per game. Rabb ranks third in the league in blocked shots (2.75).

Familiar Faces

– The Iowa Wolves, formerly the Iowa Energy, were the Grizzlies’ NBA G League affiliate for three seasons (2014-17).

– Wolves head coach Scott Roth was an assistant coach for the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies from 2000-02, including the club’s inaugural season in Memphis.

– Hustle guard Jeremy Morgan and Wolves guard Wes Washpun were teammates at Northern Iowa for three seasons (2013-16)… Additionally, Morgan, Washpun and Wolves forward Marvin Singleton were teammates for two seasons (2013-15) at Northern Iowa.

Washpun played in six games with the 2017 Memphis Grizzlies Summer League team

– Wolves forward Shawne Williams is a Memphis native and played at the University of Memphis for the 2005-06 season.
