The Memphis Hustle defeated the Canton Charge, 124-117, in the franchise’s first road game Wednesday at Canton Memorial Civic Center. Seven Hustle players scored in double figures in a balanced effort, including four players with 15-or-more.
Canton led for the majority of the first half, sparked by a 37-point first quarter where the Charge shot 14-of-21 (.667) from the field, and held an 81-71 lead with 7:55 remaining in the third quarter. However, the Hustle finished the period on a 29-11 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 13 late in the fourth quarter.
Ivan Rabb (22 points, 10 rebounds) posted his third double-double in the first four games of the season, also shooting 9-of-14 from the field and blocking two shots. Omari Johnson made 3-of-4 three-point attempts in route to a season-high 19 points.
Austin Nichols saw significant minutes for the first time this season, scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in just 17 minutes. Jeremy Morgan (16 points) and Jordon Crawford (11 points) both recorded season highs in scoring.
JaCorey Williams led the Charge with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds on a very efficient night from the field (11-13 FG). Two-way player John Holland scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half, including 14 in the first quarter, to go with eight assists. Kendrick Perkins (18 points), Marcus Thornton (16 points) and Gerald Beverley (11 points) also scored in double digits for Canton.
The Hustle return home to take on the Iowa Wolves on Friday, November 17 at 7 p.m. at Landers Center.
