The Memphis Hustle lost to the Iowa Wolves 117-98 Wednesday night at Landers Center. Iowa shot 59.0 percent (49-of-83) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range, including 26-40 (.650) overall and 8-of-11 (.727) from beyond the arc in the first half. All four percentages marked season highs for Hustle opponents.
After Iowa opened up a 20-point first half lead, Memphis cut the lead to as little as four near the end of the third quarter. However, the Wolves opened up the final period on an 18-5 run and would lead by as many as 25. The Hustle committed a season-high 24 turnovers with the Wolves converting those into 31 points.
Omari Johnson (18 points) led the Hustle in scoring and hit four three-pointers for the fourth straight game. Kobi Simmons contributed 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting (3-4 3P). Ivan Rabb (14 points, 13 rebounds) recorded his second straight double-double and fifth of the season. Marquis Teague (13 points), Trahson Burrell (12 points) and Jordon Crawford (11 points) also scored in double figures.
Melo Trimble paved the way for the Wolves with 17 points and 10 assists. Two-way player Anthony Brown also dropped in 17 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.Elijah Millsap scored 14 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. Perry Jones III (14 points, 6-8 FG) and Timberwolves assignment player Justin Patton (13 points, 6-8 FG) combined for 27 points on 14-of-16 shooting off the bench.
The Memphis Hustle will embark on a three-game road trip, starting with a Friday night matchup against the Santa Cruz Warriors on at 9 p.m. on November 15 at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The squad will return to Landers Center on Friday, December 22 for a matchup with the Austin Spurs at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available and start for as low as $10.
