The Memphis Hustle won the first of a three-game road trip over the Santa Cruz Warriors 123-115 Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Memphis earned the win despite the Warriors shooting 56.4 percent (44-of-78) from the field.
The Hustle took advantage of a massive night on the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 51-31 overall and 18-4 on the offensive glass. Memphis recorded a season-high 28 second chance points to Santa Cruz’s seven. Additionally, Santa Cruz committed just two more turnovers, but the Hustle owned a 24-13 advantage in points off turnovers.
Marquis Teague and Omari Johnson led the Hustle with 26 points apiece, marking season-highs for both. Teague was also one of three Hustle players (Jordon Crawford, Durand Scott) with six assists. Johnson made four three-pointers for the fifth consecutive game.
Ivan Rabb (15 points, 12 rebounds) posted his third consecutive double-double and sixth overall. Chance Comanche posted season-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds. Scott also reached double figures, scoring 11 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.
Cleanthony Early led Santa Cruz with 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Georges Niang followed suit with 22 points on 9-of-15 from the field to go with eight assists and six rebounds.Alex Hamilton contributed 18 points for the Warriors while Damion Lee scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench.
The Memphis Hustle will play the second of a three-game road trip on Sunday, December 17 at 7 p.m. CT against the league leading South Bay Lakers (11-3) at the UCLA Health Training Center. The squad will return to Landers Center on Friday, December 22 for a matchup with the Austin Spurs at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available and start for as low as $10.
