With just six players available, the Memphis Hustle won its third game in four tries with a 120-108 win over the Northern Arizona Suns on New Year’s Eve at Landers Center. In the second and fourth quarters combined, the Hustle outscored the Suns 67-37.
The Suns took a commanding 40-26 lead after the first quarter. However, the Hustle battled back in the second period, outscoring Northern Arizona 36-15 and taking a seven-point lead into halftime. The Suns threatened the lead on multiple occasions in the third and fourth quarters and had the Hustle lead down to 95-93 with 7:58 remaining. Memphis responded with a 10-0 run over the next 2:09 to extend the lead to 12 and would lead by as many as 18.
Northern Arizona attempted 53 three-pointers, a season-high for any Hustle opponent, but made just 32.1 percent of its attempts while Memphis shot 10-of-22 (.455) from beyond the arc. The Hustle also continued to take advantage inside, scoring 70-or-more points in the paint for the third time in four games and outscoring Northern Arizona 72-48 in those situations.
Dusty Hannahs posted a career-high and Hustle season-high 33 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the field and 6-of-9 from three-point range. Hannahs also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Vince Hunter posted season highs of 29 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks while shooting 12-of-21 overall. Durand Scott (21 points, 14 rebounds) had his second double-double of the season by halftime, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds in that span. Chance Comanche (11 points, 14 rebounds) posted his first career double-double that included a career-high for rebounds. Comanche has scored in double digits in six of his last eight games. Marquis Teague (13 points, 10 assists) also recorded a double-double, his third of the season. Austin Nichols (13 points, six rebounds) also finished in double figures.
Two-way player Danuel House led the Suns attack to start the game, scoring 18 of his team-high 26 points in the opening period and finished the game shooting 6-of-8 from three-point range. Xavier Silas scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half and shot 4-of-8 from three-point range. Alec Peters (21 points, nine rebounds) fell one rebound shy of a double-double while Josh Gray (16 points) and Mike Young (10 points) also reached double digits.
The Hustle continue its three-game homestand with a rematch against the Reno Bighorns on Tuesday, January 2 at 7 p.m. at Landers Center. Reno won the previous meeting on Thursday, 133-104.
