Fourth quarter proves costly for Hustle against Reno

The Memphis Hustle lost to the Reno Bighorns 118-113 on Tuesday Night at Landers Center. The Hustle came into the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead, but Reno took the period 37-22 to earn its sixth straight win.

Much like last week’s meeting in Reno, the Hustle jumped out to an early lead but Reno would close the quarter on a 37-15 run to gain a 12-point lead. The Bighorns kept the Hustle at arm’s length and led 64-50 with 3:35 remaining in the first half, but Memphis would then go on a 22-3 run to close the second quarter and open the third to take the lead. After Memphis extended the lead to 10 at the end of the third frame, Reno opened the fourth on a 21-4 run that would secure the lead for the remainder of the game. 

Marquis Teague (25 points) led the Hustle in scoring for the fourth time this season and also posted five boards, four assists and three steals. Durand Scott (21 points) had his second straight game with 20-or-more points. Vince Hunter (18 points, 12 rebounds) tallied his second straight double-double while Trahson Burrell (14 points, 10 rebounds) recorded his seventh double-double of the year. Additionally, Grizzlies assignee Ivan Rabb (12 points) scored in double digits and grabbed six boards.

David Stockton led the Reno effort with 22 points off the bench, marking his second game in his last four with at least 20 points. JaKarr Sampson (17 points, 10 rebounds) posted a double-double and had 14 of his 17 in the second half. Brandon Austin (19 points) came off the bench and finished two points shy of his season-high. Jack Cooley (14 points) and Aaron Harrison (12 points) also finished in double digits.

The Hustle close its three-game homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Blue at Landers Center. Oklahoma City has won the previous two meetings this season.
