Memphis Hustle guard Tarik Phillip today signed a multi-year contract with the Washington Wizards. Phillip marks the fifth GATORADE Call-Up in franchise history. In 47 games (34 starts) with the Hustle this season, Phillip averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.66 steals in 29.8 minutes per game while shooting 46.7 percent overall, 40.4 percent from three-point range and 78.3 percent from the free throw line.
Phillip showed notable improvement throughout the 2018-19 season in Memphis and placed second in NBA G League Most Improved Player voting. After averaging just 5.9 points, 1.6 assists and 1.4 rebounds in the month of November, Phillip was the only player in the NBA G League to average at least 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in the month of February.
On February 24 at Long Island, Phillip scored 48 points, the third-highest total in the NBA G League this season. His 39 points in the second half, which included 22 in the fourth quarter, marked a league record for any half. The West Virginia product finished 16-of-25 from the field (7-8 3P, 9-10 FT) to go with six rebounds, four assists, a career-high four blocks and two steals. His scoring total is the third-highest in the NBA G League this season and the Hustle own two of the three highest scoring individual games during the 2018-19 season (Tyler Harvey, 58 at Iowa on Feb. 2).
