Hustle Comeback Falls Short Against Vipers

Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Hustle (3-4), the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, were defeated 130-125 by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-2) on Education Day at Landers Center.
Charlie Brown Jr. paced Memphis with 23 points and six rebounds. Nate Hinton scored 21 points. Evan Gilyard tallied 17 points and six assists. Tyler Burton registered 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. DeJon Jarreau and Lucas Williamson added 14 points off the bench each.
Teddy Allen led the Vipers scoring 36 points off the bench, hitting eight 3-pointers. Kevon Harris contributed 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Daishen Nix totaled 22 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists. Efe Abogidi scored 19 points and blocked three shots.
Rio Grande Valley opened the second half on a 30-17 run to take a 17-point lead in the third quarter and led by 24 with 8:10 remaining. Memphis fought back with a 33-10 run to cut the deficit to 126-125 with 26.8 seconds remaining. Nix responded with a layup to push the Vipers lead to three points. Gilyard’s 26-foot triple on the ensuing possession came up short and Rio Grande Valley hit a pair of free throws to pull away for the win.
Memphis outscored Rio Grande Valley 60-42 in the paint and totaled 21 second chance points. The Hustle dished out 25 assists on 44 field goals. The Vipers shot 46.5 percent from beyond the arc, making 20 3-pointers.
The Hustle will conclude their four-game home stand with another matchup against the Vipers on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. CT.
