We grit. We grind. As one.
After all it’s who we are.
And who we’ve always been.
Paved with soul and built on heart.
It’s our history.
And it’s next.
Because, in Mississippi we flow.
In Memphis we ball.
And together we hustle.
What’s In A Name
It’s about who we are, not where we’re from. It’s a full nod to our regional cultural ethos – Grit & Grind. It’s about the little things and the dirty work. It’s about the extra effort and for a lot of us that second or third job. In the end, it’s about hard work or as we call it around here, hustle.
The Icon
The Memphis Grizzlies bear icon at its heart is designed to represent strength, intensity and tenacity. The direct correlation, through the silver outline of the icon, helps reflect not only these core attributes but also assists in connecting the parent-organization directly to this new brand.
The Wordmark
From Po’ Monkey’s to Beale Street. From Ground Zero to the birthplace of soul at Stax. The type is an amalgamation of the rich music history in our region along with a newly designed inline combining inspiration from the Grizzlies and Beale Street neon with the relentless flow of the mighty Mississippi, shown through the larger line-forms and sweeping letter turns.
The Color
Although we live in a region steeped in blues, from music to collars and the Grizzlies of course, our red plays no second string. Whether its historical sports franchises like the Memphis Sounds, Chicks, Showboats, Americans and others (the Memphis Wings – remember them?), or current teams like the Redbirds and Ole Miss to name a few or the rich vibrancy of Soulsville itself, red has been and will continue to be part of our culture on and off the court.
The Star
The star, as much as it nods back to Wattstax and some of the region’s biggest names like Isaac Hayes and others, it truly looks forward to the Grizzlies’ stars of tomorrow.
