Hustle lose to Warriors 126-124

The Memphis Hustle (5-7), the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, were defeated 126-124 by the Santa Cruz Warriors (7-5) in the first of a two-game set at Landers Center.
Matthew Hurt paced the Hustle with 35 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Adonis Arms added a season-high 24 points. DeJon Jarreau tallied 18 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Lucas Williamson scored 16 points. Cameron McGriff contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kevion Nolan totaled 10 points and five assists off the bench.
Kendric Davis led the Warriors with 23 points and 14 assists. Pat Spencer contributed 23 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Jackson Rowe tallied 19 points and eight rebounds. Javan Johnson scored 18 points.
After trailing by as many as nine points in the second half, the Warriors used a 12-2 run to retake the lead. Spencer split a pair at the free throw line to give the Warriors a 126-124 lead with 5.5 seconds remaining. Hurt’s 3-point attempt as time expired rimmed out as the Warriors held on for the win.
The Hustle outrebounded Santa Cruz 55-45 and outscored the Warriors 54-46 in the paint. Santa Cruz outscored the Hustle 35-23 in the fast break. The Warriors scored 17 points off turnovers.
The teams will complete the two-game set at Landers Center on Monday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. CT.
