Hustle win streak snapped in loss to Spurs

Southaven, Miss. – The Memphis Hustle (17-6), the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, had their seven-game winning streak snapped 121-109 against the Austin Spurs (7-17) on Saturday at Landers Center.

The Hustle had seven players score in double figures, with Justin Bean and Matt Hurt scoring 17 points apiece. Dakota Mathias tallied 14 points, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter. Jacob Gilyard contributed 11 points and nine assists. Adonis Arms totaled 12 points and five rebounds in his Hustle debut. Damien Jefferson also chipped in 12 points off the bench.

Olin Carter III paced the Spurs as he scored a season-high 25 points and knocked down five of his six attempts from beyond the arc. Jordan Murphy finished with 24 points. Chaundee Brown Jr. notched his second double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Randolph tallied 17 points. Adrian Delph contributed 16 points off the bench. 

After trailing by nine at the end of the first quarter, the Hustle used a 27-11 run to end the second quarter and take a two-point lead. The Spurs made six of their eight attempts from beyond the arc in the third quarter to take a six-point lead into the final frame. The teams were tied at 104 before the Spurs closed the game out on a 17-5 run to secure the win.

The Hustle bench outscored the Spurs’ reserves 42-28. The Hustle shot 51.2% from the field, making 13 of 39 attempts from beyond the arc. The Spurs made 14 of their 30 attempts from deep, finishing the game shooting 48.4% from the field. The Hustle outscored the Spurs 18-13 in fast break points. 

The Hustle will look to get back to their winning ways with a rematch against the Spurs on Monday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at Landers Center to wrap up the two-game series.
