Hustle wrap up four-game homestand with win over Mexico City

Southaven, Miss. – The Memphis Hustle (12-5), the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, defeated the Mexico City Capitanes (13-6) 111-99 on Thursday morning as the Hustle completed a four-game homestand. The win secures a two-game series sweep of Mexico City.
Dakota Mathias led the Hustle with 22 points, making five of nine attempts from beyond the arc. Justin Bean posted 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Matthew Hurt secured his first double-double of the season behind 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Jacob Gilyard notched his fifth double-double of the season scoring 11 points and 11 assists, and Sean McDermott totaled 17 points and five rebounds as all Hustle starters scored in double figures. Damien Jefferson chipped in 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Rigoberto Mendoza scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Capitanes in the loss. Gary Clark followed with 23 points and seven rebounds, making seven of 13 attempts from beyond the arc. Kenneth Faried finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Skylar Mays added 12 points off the Capitanes bench.
Memphis used a 16-0 run in the first quarter to take an early double-digit lead over Mexico City. The Hustle were able to maintain their lead before a 19-8 Capitanes run to end the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 83-75. Memphis responded in the fourth quarter with a critical 10-0 run to push their lead back up to 19 points following a McDermott 3-pointer to clinch the win.
The Hustle shot 47.8% from the field and a season-high 41.7% from beyond the arc. The Hustle outrebounded the Capitanes 47-40, scoring 22 second chance points. The Hustle had 27 assists on 43 made field goals.
The Hustle will hit the road for a two-game trip against the Oklahoma City Blue, with the first matchup on Monday, Feb. 13, at 12 p.m. CT at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
