Mexico City – The Memphis Hustle, the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, dropped its first game of the season, 108-93, to the Mexico Capitanes Thursday night.
Jahlil Okafor led Mexico City with 26 points and six rebounds on 11-of-14 shooting. Gary Clarke posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Mason Jones added 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Mexico City’s starting unit featured a bevy of NBA experience. Tonight’s starting five for the Capitanes have combined to play in 980 NBA Games.
Mexico City stretched the lead to as many as 27 points, 84-57, after a 29-9 run in the third quarter and never looked back. The Capitanes outshot the Hustle 49.4% to 39.5% from the floor and outrebounded Memphis 50-38.
Kenny Lofton Jr. led Memphis with 27 points and six rebounds on 10-of-21 shooting. Jacob Gilyard added 14 points and Matthew Hurt pitched in 12 points off the bench.
The Hustle cut the lead to 14 points in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the slow start offensively. Memphis shot 47.8% in the fourth quarter but shot 36.5% in the first three quarters.
